A Peek Into Mike Gordon Rehearsals
Mike and his band spent last week in rehearsals in the mountains of Vermont for their upcoming 8-date March run, which begins with a sold out show this Friday, March 5th in Troy, NY. Wanting to give fans a unique glimpse into the practice space, we’re releasing a track that grew out of the session.
Mike explains: “On the first day of practices, we decided to come to the studio and invite the muse to control us for a day. I led a guided meditation in which we imagined tapping into universal energy that connects from the spheres, through us, and into the center of the Earth, and then we imagined being on stage as the music played the band and the coolest sound we could fathom came out. Each band member then described his aural vision, directing the others to create it. And this little sampling is Craig Myers’ vision, entitled ‘Birth Of The Universe.’ He described ambience wallowing from nothingness, and then mouthed out a rhythm that Todd could then interpret, helping to kick the thing into rock-ass gear. Nice work, Craig.”
You can download the track absolutely free at mike’s website.
Tickets for New Haven through Lebanon are on sale now. Please visit the tourdates page for complete details, whiffs and ticketing info.

Mike Gordon 10/3/09 Buffalo, NY Released
We’re excited to announce 10/3/2009 The Town Ballroom, Buffalo, NY – the next release from Mike Gordon’s five-piece band (which includes Scott Murawski on guitar, Craig Myers on percussion, Tom Cleary on keyboards and drummer Todd Isler) on CD and as a download (in both MP3 and FLAC formats) at LivePhish.com.
This 2-CD show was culled from Mike’s 2009 Fall Tour and features several new songs from his repertoire including “Can’t Stand Still” and “Spiral”. A handful of covers, carefully deconstructed and reconstructed with a fresh twist, were also played that night including Radiohead’s “15 Step”, The Talking Heads’ “Cities” and The Mustangs’ “Time For Loving Is Now”.
The show was fully remixed by Mike, from the band’s multitrack recordings and is mastered. You can download the show now at LivePhish.com and pre-order it on CD at both LivePhish.com or Mike’s Online Store.
Mike’s upcoming March Tour begins March 5th in Troy, NY. The headlining club tour features a return to the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia and first time stops at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore, Jefferson Theatre in Charlottesville, and Revolution Hall in Troy. Part Southern gentleman, part humble artist, Danny Barnes will open for the first four dates.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now. Please visit the tourdates page at mike-gordon.com for complete details, whiffs and ticketing info.
Trey & Classic TAB Webcast From St. Louis
We’re excited to present a live video stream of Trey Anastasio and Classic TAB’s performance from the Pageant in St. Louis, MO tomorrow night, February 23, 2010 at iClips.net. The show starts at 8:30PM EST and will stream in its entirety, absolutely free.
Trey and Classic TAB features the same lineup from last fall, with the addition of horns back into the mix. The tour is receiving rave reviews along the way.
The septet is performing material spanning Trey’s solo career. The band spent a great deal of time in rehearsals, adapting the arrangements to suit the current configuration and working on several brand new compositions. Classic TAB has always functioned as a breeding ground of sorts, with many of its songs eventually crossing over into Phish’s repertoire.
Trey Anastasio and Classic TAB will be at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN on Thursday 2/25, The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC on 2/26, The Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA on 2/27 and The Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, TN on 2/28 to close out their tour. Tickets are on sale now.
11/19/92 LivePhish.com Haiti Relief
Phish’s November 19th, 1992 show at Ross Arena at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT was an old fashioned local barn-burner. It took place just as the band finished recording “Rift” – their fourth album for Elektra Records.
In nearly a decade of playing almost every venue in Vermont, this tour-opening show marked the band’s first St. Michael’s appearance. The newly constructed Ross Arena provided a hometown showcase for the new material. Of five songs debuted in Colchester, several came from the new album including “Fast Enough For You” and Fishman’s contribution to Rift – an extended dub-style “Lengthwise”.
The band used the overgrown living room vibe of their hometown show to introduce the first ever Big Ball Jam. It was during the set two-opening “Mike’s Groove” sequence when the show reached full fever pitch with an extended Weekapaug Groove. Gordon Stone’s guest parts on pedal steel lent a spooky flavor to “Poor Heart” and “Llama” and his contribution to “Fast Enough For You” earned this first version a permanent spot among the best performances of the song. Four songs from the soundcheck accompany in this release, including “Weigh”, “Caravan” and an extended “Funky Bitch”.
The intended release of this show at LivePhish.com happened to intersect with the incredible tragedy of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. This archival release emerged as a way to help the victims of the Haiti Earthquake thousands of miles away.
100% of proceeds from the release will benefit The American Red Cross and Partners in Health, two organizations working towards the aid and restoration of Haiti. Phish’s own non-profit, The WaterWheel Foundation, will match the first $15,000 raised from the sale of this show.
In the past, charitable downloads at LivePhish.com have raised over $60,000 for three non-profits, the Harbor House of New Jersey (The Headphones Jam), the New Orleans Musician’s Clinic and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fund (Katrina Relief). Additionally, the Mockingbird Foundation receives funding on an on-going basis from the proceeds at LivePhish.com.
For a complete tracklisting or to download the MP3/FLAC files, please click here. Please spread the word about this release and its beneficiaries, who are busy right now providing much needed medical support in Haiti.
